Your instructor sends a join link. Opening it while signed in adds you to the
assignment. There is nothing to install and no data to download first.

The dataset does not move under you

An assignment pins its data at the moment the instructor created it: the actual
bytes, not a query that gets re-run. Two students downloading in different weeks
get identical files, and so does the instructor when marking. A result that
can’t be reproduced is a bug in the assignment, not in your analysis.

Each assignment shows the citation hash of the pinned data. Quote it in what you
hand in.

What you can do without a subscription

Browse the explorer, read prices, use the timeline, and open any assignment
shared with you. Bulk CSV downloads and the API are on the paid plan, but if
your university has a plan, you already have it through them: your access is the
best plan across every organization you belong to, so a personal free account
plus a covered university seat means you get the university’s features.
